Some new things for baby and me

Hello! I thought I would share with y’all some things that I have gotten so far for baby and me! Being a first time momma, I have no clue what I will need. I do know that some of these may not make a “necessity” list but they sure do make the “pretty, sweet things” list! There’s just so much out there for new moms and babies that it is hard to not go overboard and I am trying to mix the necessity list with pretty and sweet so I can have the best of both 🙂

I’m trying to stay neutral with all everything I buy because I just love how calming and sweet it all is. Also, I can keep all the things in case we have another baby in the future! That’s pretty cost effective, right?! Below are some photos of the sweet things I have collected so far and I’ll link it all down at the bottom if you are interested in checking some of the items out for yourself!

One of my favorite items above are the birth affirmation cards that have special meaning to me. I asked Ashley Bunten with Ashley Bunten Design to make them for me and they turned out perfect! I chose the verses and quotes I wanted and Ashley laid them out perfectly with her watercolor greenery wreath design. I cannot wait to read these to myself as time gets closer and to have them read to me as I am in labor with my sweet baby boy!

I have a list of other items that I either need or want before baby gets here that I am hoping to show you soon! But for now, below is a list of the items pictured above. Maybe one day I will do a review on some of the things above!

Diaper Bag | Fawn Design Original in Black

Baby Wrap | AJJ x Solly Baby

Moccasins | Freshly Picked Newborn in Toasted Almond

Birth Affirmation Cards | Ashley Bunten Design

Crib Sheet | Pottery Barn Kids (similar style linked)

Baby Blanket | Pottery Barn Kids in Gray

Hedgehog Snap-Up Footed Onesie | Carters

Neutral Onesies | Carters  (similar styles linked)

One more thing I want to show you is this letter board. I have a larger one already, but I thought it would be so sweet to have a smaller sized one to keep in the nursery and to also showcase in weekly and monthly growth photos of baby! The one I have is the Letterfolk in The Poet Oak and I’ve already been playing around with it…

Ten of my favorite baby cribs

Land of Nod – Springwood Crib

Hello! I’ve been doing a lot of research on what crib to get for my sweet baby’s nursery and thought I would share ten of my favorite baby cribs! Not all of them were heavily considered, but I did love them all for one reason or another! White is usually my go-to because it can be used in just about any style nursery with any color or decor you have planned out. So that makes it easier to use later on if considering another sweet baby and another differently styled nursery in the future. Although I love white, I have included a few other cribs that are a different color than white, one is even a sweet metal crib that looks vintage!

I didn’t pick my crib out and order it until we found out that we are having a baby boy! There are a couple spindle cribs I was considering if we were having a girl, but I just didn’t feel like those would be the best fit for my boy nursery (even though the nursery itself will be pretty neutral). I added the mint colored crib to my list because I just think it is the prettiest thing ever! Would I ever order a mint colored crib? Probably not! But only because I have a fear of commitment with color… but I would love to see it in someone else’s nursery! It is such a sweet color 🙂

I also love the Springwood Crib from Land of Nod that’s on my list (pictured above)! If I had a slightly larger budget that may have been the crib I would have picked out. Most of the wood cribs I see are the darker, espresso colored brown. The Springwood Crib is the perfect shade and I would have loved to have it! Before I chose white, I originally wanted a pretty colored wooden crib, just didn’t realize how hard that would be to find. I do love the crib we chose, though! Cannot wait to show you “the One”!

Pregnancy Update

Hey friends! It’s been a while since I have been on here, but so excited to work my way back 🙂 I wanted to update everyone on how I’ve been doing and what all has been going on for me! If you’ve seen some of my recent Instagram posts then you know that Tyler and I are expecting a sweet baby to arrive the end of September and we could not be more excited! And even more recently, we found out sweet baby is going to be a B O Y ! This came as a shock to us as we, and along with most people we know, thought baby was going to be a girl. But I am excited about growing our family with a healthy baby boy and even more excited about seeing how much a boy really loves his mommy 🙂

I’ve been doing so great this pregnancy, I am almost embarrassed to say how good it’s been! When we found out we were expecting in January I had gotten extremely exhausted and next-level hangry. Like I’ve always been the type to get really hungry then really angry (hence the word hangry 😉 ) but this was next level. This was more like the next few levels up! I had to eat or I just felt so nauseous and I might have snapped at Tyler a couple of times… But that feeling has passed and now I’m just feeling normal for the most part! I’m 20 weeks pregnant this week and I cannot believe I am halfway there!

I’m starting to plan sweet baby’s nursery and am constantly looking around for ideas and inspiration. I want to keep it neutral, but am not completely sure what I am going to do yet. Everything I gravitate towards is white and I just feel like I need to incorporation more than just white into a nursery. But I can promise won’t see too much color when the time comes! Neutrals make me happy 🙂

I’ve also been researching tons of items that I need to register for and some things I want to buy. I’d love to share with you some of my baby wish list items in a new post soon! And even reviews on items I end up getting or purchasing for myself. Being a first-time mother and picking out baby things I know nothing about is very difficult, but I am having so much fun looking around at all of the possibilities! I’d love to hear some of your must-haves in the comments below 🙂

I’m hoping to share a lot more soon! More personal posts and feelings I’ve had so far in this pregnancy, some of my favorite items I’ve found and reviews, how I’m preparing for the labor I’m hoping to have, and sweet baby’s nursery reveal! I am always nervous about sharing too much of my thoughts or what is going on. I’m an introvert and and self-conscious, so putting myself out there is hard for me. But I am behind a computer screen so it makes things a little less scary 😉 No way I’d get up in public and speak to you all! If there is anything you’d like for me to share more of I’d love to know! Having this blog has been a great outlet for me to document my life by sharing things I love and what’s been going on. But I also love to connect with others through similar situations and stories!

Area Rugs For Any Neutral Space

Hey friends! Thanks for stopping by! Today I’m posting 10 of my favorite online area rugs  that I have my eye on for my living room! Things have definitely changed in here since we first moved in. I did a post last year about the “before” in my living room. Before the new couches, new coffee table and end table. Before it really started to feel like home. You can find that post here. Now I am on the hunt for the perfect area rug to help complete this space! I don’t think we really have to have a rug in here, but I think it would help pull everything together and be a little more homey feeling.

So here are 10 that I am looking at!

Lotus Black Silver Rug | Natura Handspun Jute Rug | Cara Sisal Rug | Tulum Ash Ivory Rug

Natural Basket Weave Jute Rug | Kala Printed Rug | Diamond Sisal Rug | Lotus Ivory Mink Rug

Lotus Blue Ivory Rug | Chevron Wool Jute Rug

It was so hard to narrow it down as there are so many beautiful rugs out there! And it is even harder to pick one out from online. Normally I like to look at things in person, but I know all of these brands have great reputations so I know their rugs are good quality. I’m leaning towards either a jute/sisal rug or this one below… Can’t wait to hear your opinions!

Cheesy Bacon Chicken Quesadillas

Chicken, bacon and cheese is such a great combo! Chili’s has chicken bacon and ranch quesadillas that I love (minus the ranch) so I made my own homemade recipe so we can have them whenever we want! Hope you’ll love them, too!

Cheesy Bacon Chicken Quesadillas

Serves 2-4

  • 4 flour tortillas (soft taco size)
  • 1 lb of boneless, skinless chicken
  • 1 tbs vegetable oil
  • 1 packet fajita seasoning mix
  • 1/3 cup of water
  • 5 pieces of bacon
  • shredded shard cheddar and monterey jack cheeses
  • Sour cream and toppings as desired

Preheat oven to 350°. Cut about 5 pieces of bacon into small strips. Cook until done and drain grease. Set aside. Cut chicken into small pieces and cook in skillet with oil until done (about 10 minutes). Add fajita seasoning and 1/3 cup of water and cook as directed on packet. On a baking sheet, lay two flour tortillas out and sprinkle the cheese on both. Add the cooked, seasoned chicken to both tortillas. You should be able to fit half of the cooked, seasoned chicken on each tortilla. Add in the cooked bacon and more shredded cheese. Put the other two flour tortillas on top to complete the quesadilla. Bake in the over for about 7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted to your liking. Cut each quesadilla into 4 pieces with a pizza cutter and enjoy!

I like to add just sour cream to my quesadillas, but you can add lettuce, peppers, tomatoes, or anything else you like! And this is a really easy recipe to make as well as customize to your liking. These are super easy to save in the fridge and reheat for later, saying there are leftovers 😉 This is a super easy meal that I like to make and I hope you enjoy it as well!

Sausage Balls

Sausage balls! Who doesn’t love them?! Maybe those of you who haven’t heard of them. Yes, I am sure there are a select few out there that have never heard of these sausagey, cheesy, perfect comfort food goodness! And like everything, there are tons of recipes out there for them. I love this recipe, though! It’s the recipe my mom has always used, and it is so simple. Nothing you don’t need. Nothing that tries to add a twang or a special kick to spice them up. Just simple, uncomplicated ingredients that make for a great finger food snack!

Sausage Balls

  • 1 lb uncooked sausage (I prefer hot)
  • 8 oz shredded cheese – sharp cheddar
  • 2 cups Bisquik/baking mix
  • 2 tbsp milk

Preheat oven to 350°. In a large mixing bowl combine shredded cheese and baking mix. I like to mix these together first to get the cheese coated so it doesn’t clump together. Add the sausage and milk. Mix together with your hands until it’s all combined. Make into balls and place on baking sheet. Cook about 25 to 30 minutes.

  • Shred a block of cheese. Yes, pre-shredded cheese you can get in a bag is easier and will be good! But I have found that shredding your own cheese makes them that much better! The cheese melts a little more. The bottom of the balls get a little crusty. You get the idea 😉
  • If you don’t like hot sausage, go for the mild! Or even do half mild and half hot. Growing up my mom always made them half mild and half hot. But recently we have loved the all hot
  • Loosely make the balls. My mom balls them up tightly, but I’ve been lazily balling them up and I love how they fall apart as you eat them
  • The size of the sausage balls and closeness of them to each other on the baking sheet may alter bake time. Time them at 20 minutes and then watch them. Once they start to brown on the top they are good
  • Making a double batch is easy! Just double all of the ingredients and mix together
  • Be careful not add too much milk. I made that mistake once and they were pretty gross. You want just enough to help hold all the ingredients together

Sausage balls are very easy to make and with these simple ingredients I know it’ll become a classic go-to recipe for you! Enjoy!

Fresh Start in the New Year

This past year has not been too crazy for us, but changes were made. I quit my job of 8 years and started fresh at a new one. That was scary for me. I’m not welcoming of big changes and this was big for me. It was like starting a new year at school. My stomach always felt bad and I’d be so nervous. I’ve always been quiet and shy, not wanting any attention on myself. Now that I’m an adult, I think that feeling is the same if not stronger. We also celebrated our first full year in our new home. As you can see from my photos, not much has changed since we moved in. Haha! But we are slowly, and I mean S L O W L Y, working on furnishing and decorating. You’ll probably hear me say that for the rest of my life!

This year I’m looking forward to many new fresh starts and positive changes. A few things I’m wanting to do this new year are:

Be more active and make health a priority (isn’t that on everyone’s list, every. single year?!)

Blog more and share what I love, who I love, and our homemaking and life journey

Make sure what I buy for our home is something I really want or need

Spend more time studying the Bible and reading devotionals (I recently got a couple new ones from here)

Eat more from home and trying new recipes

Do more outside

Have friends and family over more often

Go to more flea markets, barn sales and other festivals

Be  more authentic and true to myself

What are some New Year’s resolutions that you are working on? I’d love to hear about them! And it’s always OK to work on new things throughout the coming months. But there’s something about a new year and having the opportunity to start it off fresh, new and positive that I love.

Christmas Home Tour

Long time no see! I thought I would share with everyone today some of our Christmas decorations! If you follow me in Instagram then you probably have seen a few of these pictures, but that’s ok 🙂 I’ve been waning to get another post together for some time now and I thought it would be fun to talk out our Christmas decor! Since these photos, we have installed gas logs, but everything else in our home is still the same so I thought I’d share the photos I’ve already taken.

Christmas is my favorite time of year and I love to decorate for it! I feel it makes our home much more cozy. This is a great shot of our tree so you can see our minimal ornaments we used this year. I bought these letter ornaments at target. They are made from a heavy metal and painted gold. Like last year, I have my lanterns placed around the tree to give an extra touch. We do not have much decor to use, but love using what we have. This tree skirt is a DIY project I did when we lived in our old house. I may change it up next year, but I love the look and color of it. Maybe I can do a DIY tutorial on it next year?

Here’s another shot of our living room. I love keeping a simply decorated mantel, even at Christmas. It’s even cozier now with our gas logs 😉 But I love having fresh greenery draped over the mantel. I’m even trying to talk my husband into getting a live tree next year instead of our “faux” one! This tree we got a Lowe’s the first year we were married. It just a basic artificial tree, about 7.5 feet tall. It gets the job done, but I would love to have a fresh tree next year. This sign is one of my favorites for Christmas! It’s from Vine and Branches and you can visit her etsy shop hereAnd these pillows are from one of my favorite shops, So Vintage Chic, which you can find her here.

This is another one of my favorite Christmas signs from Vine and Branches. Love having the greenery draped around it!

Here’s a shot of how I styled my Decor Steals cuprack for Christmas. Again, fresh greenery and lights add the perfect touch for any space this time of year. It’s so easy to use and even get. Well, for me it is. The greenery on  my mantel came from Lowes, but the extra sprigs of live branches came from the yard! Easy peasy. Of course, I’m showing off my Christmas Rae Dunn collection. Pretty sure this space is perfect!

Here’s a close up of our entry table. I never know how to decorate this thing. It’s long and fits the space, but I think it’s awkward and hard to style. But for Christmas, anything goes. Christmas is so much easier to decorate for than the rest of the year! I have more lanterns sitting around, pillows, and this amazing sweater knit blanket from Target! So glad I snagged this on Black Friday at such a great deal! I also have my Target Dollar Spot trees and ceramic houses on the table. Then finally an old window layered with another Vine and Branches sign. I got this sign for Thanksgiving, but pretty sure it’ll be great any time of year.

My bedroom got a little Christmas makeover too. Looks like I moved this pillow in here when I took a photo. That’s the great thing about it all, though, is that it’s easily used in any room!

I’m basically still obsessed with my signs above the bed! Not sure what i’ll do when I want to change things up, but I love that I still love these here! and like I said earlier, it is so easy to just add touches of greenery to any space. This is more of the fresh branches I cut from the yard. Just added a string of lights and I can say I decorated for Christmas.

Thanks to this close up, I just noticed a light is out… Glad the rest of the strand didn’t go out with it! ha! This post has shown me that I love to decorate with signs. Not sure if that’s a bad thing or not? I don’t have too many things to decorate with so having signs around the house are definitely focal points. These signs came from my sweet friend, Stephanie, who had a shop called Homespun Signs. She’s taking a break right now, for anyone wondering 🙂

And this is my newest Christmas sign addition! I’m done. I promise! Just love all the Christmas sign goodness and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. So glad you stopped by to see how we decorate for Christmas! Hoping to snag some after Christmas sales so I can decorate a little bit more next year, but I can already tell you we will still keep it pretty simple 🙂

DIY Chalk Paint Project

Hi y’all! So I (finally) completed my  DIY chalk paint project I started a week or two ago! I have these green crates that I bought at Home Goods last summer  while our house was still under construction. I loved the garden green color and thought they would be perfect in our home. Well fast forward to us moving in… I just didn’t love the color of them anymore. Not in our home. I love touches of green and blue even, but these seemed to really stand out. And not in a good way.

I’ve been thinking for a while that I needed to tone them down a bit. They are so large, I feel like they will be focal pieces wherever I decide to use them. I love color, but I like to incorporate color as accents and not focal points. So I knew I would need to go neutral. That was the only way I knew my mind would feel relaxed when I look at them. Am I the only one who feels uneasy about certain design or color choices? haha. Yea. This green had to go!!

I really do love these boxes! They have a wire bottom to them, which I’ll show you in a minute. They are rustic and can be used for so many things around the house! I cannot wait to use them for Christmas! Yes, I am counting down the days to Christmas… OK, so I am sure if you know me or follow me on Instagram  you probably already know what color I chose to go with for my DIY chalk paint project…

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White (insert heart eyes)! I’ve only tried a couple different brands of chalk paint. Annie Sloan was my first and will probably always be my go-to. It finishes beautifully and comes in gorgeous colors! I’ve been wanting to branch out and try other colors, but I’ve only had a couple of chalk paint projects and haven’t found the right pieces to experiment with just yet.

If you are new to chalk painting, don’t be nervous! I was very nervous my first time chalk painting because I thought I could really mess something up, but you literally can’t.  The first project I did was painting my oak dining chairs that I got from a yard sale and they have been my favorite DIY chalk paint project so far! They are the ones sitting in my breakfast nook. They are also painted in Annie Sloan Old White. This color truly looks how the name describes it. It is a really pretty, creamy white that looks like it as a little age to it.

So for my first DIY chalk paint project I used these little “chip” brushes from LowesThey are very inexpensive and great to use! I did, however, buy nicer brushes for my next project to see if they give a smoother finish. I am going to paint my breakfast nook table (again) and am wondering how the nicer brushes will do. The brushes I got I will share with you in another post, but they aren’t name brand or anything. Just the next step or two up from these cheaper brushes. I used these “chip” brushes for painting my crates and they worked perfectly! The only thing I suggest doing before using them is roughly brushing them on your hand to get the loose bristles out.

If you don’t, you will get loose bristles all over your painted piece and it is a little messy digging them out! Then you have to repaint that area. Usually it is a continuous process. Even though I got a lot of the loose bristles out before I started, a couple still came off while I was painting, but no where near the amount that would have if I had not gotten most of them out beforehand.

For this project, and other DIY chalk paint projects, these are the items I use. Chalk paint, brushes, a can opener, painter’s tape and this awesome, thick paper that was leftover from building our house! You can actually buy it at Lowes, but an old sheet will do. Something I used that is not pictures is sandpaper. Again, if you are nervous about using chalk paint don’t be! You truly cannot mess it up! Just paint it on and let it dry. I always do two coats of paint on my projects. I think sometimes I could get away with just one, but two really seems to work best for me!

I did tape off the inside around the edge so that I wouldn’t make a complete mess on the wire bottom. And no, I was unable to paint the inside green that is below the wire. But no one will ever notice 😉 Once I got my edges tapes off, it was time to paint! Make sure to shake the paint can really well before using.

These pictures above are after one coat of chalk paint. In person it was easier to tell that another coat was needed. At this point I already felt 100 times better about my decision to paint my crates a neutral color!

This is after the second coat of chalk paint. Once the second coat dried, I lightly sanded the crate. I used 120 grit sandpaper and barely pressed down. I was not wanting to distress the piece much at all, but rather make the finish a little smoother. Some of the paint did come off around the edges, but not too much. If you want more of a distressed look, I still recommend a fine grit, but sand more. I’ve used a more coarse sand paper before and it scratches the paint and that’s not a good look.

The crates already have a ton of character. They aren’t perfect, but that is why I love them! The small one I chose to paint the bottom, but the other two I did not. I realized that no one is going to see the bottom and why waste my paint to paint something that’ll never be seen!

Here’s a side by side of the two. Before and after, if you will. The white truly is much more me! Cleaner, fresher and brighter, which makes my heart happy.

And now this is what I envisioned! Gorgeous neutral statement pieces that I can easily add different decor pieces to that’ll bring in some color to the house, if I want to. Here are a few shots of the crates finished:

You can tell the Old White isn’t as white as my shiplap walls, but it is a pretty color that compliments all the different whites I have in my home! That is what I love about naturals, they are easy to mix together.

Detail shot of the crate. The crates weren’t perfect when I bought them. They had nail holes and the wood was rough. But I love that. It makes them more rustic and gives them character. On my other DIY chalk paint projects I have done in the past I always used Anne Sloan Clear Wax to seal the pieces, and depending on what piece you are finishing I highly recommend using it. It helps to protect your piece and really finishes the piece off. For these crates, however, I think I am going to skip the wax. I will show you how to use it when I paint my table!

The gang’s all here! Love that I decided to go with my gut and paint these babies white. I know you probably think I have too much white in my home, but I am no where near done decorating and furnishing and I think when I get more pieces in here it’ll all look beautiful together. Speaking of furnishing, we ordered our couches! Ikea didn’t work out (long story) but we are hoping to have our new couches the first of October! Cannot wait to show them to y’all 🙂
